Monday's sinking spirits - The Sunday Telegraph 20th January 2008

Sunday, January 20, 2008

It didn't take an expert to tell us that, for the average member of the toiling masses, a Monday morning does not dawn with quite the same bright promise as, say, a Friday evening rolls around. For equally clear reasons, the short, dark, cold days of midwinter tend not to fill us with the joys of spring. Quite unafraid to state the bloomin' obvious, however, one Dr Cliff Arnall, a psychologist, has rendered these commonsensical observations into a manner of scientific formula. This, when the data has been fed in, spits out the prediction that tomorrow, being the first Monday of the last full week of January, will be the unhappiest day of the year.
