Three in every 10 eligible women are not being screened for breast cancer frequently enough despite a Government pledge to provide the service for all women aged 50 to 70, new figures show. In some areas just one per cent of women between these ages are having mammograms every three years while in others 100 per cent of women attend for regular tests. The increase in numbers of women eligible for NHS screening as the baby boomer generation reaches 50 has put pressure on the service and in some areas few women answer invitations to attend for mammograms.
