POLICE are to crackdown on assaults at Southport Hospital by incorporating the site into their regular beat. Officers in Kew are set to patrol the site on a daily basis in a bid to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust, which operates the hospital, has been in negotiations about the possibility of a police presence after figures revealed that more than one member of staff was being physically assaulted each week.
