Plans to give all middle-aged people a health MOT will double the number of patients taking statins to more than six million, the Government's heart tsar has warned. Use of blood pressure drugs could also double as a result of checks for everyone aged between 40 and 74, said Professor Roger Boyle. Some experts claim the screening programme, due to begin next year, will lead to the "medicalisation" of a generation and turn healthy people into patients.
