Casualty 1907 ... what a visit to hospital held in store for patients a hundred years ago - Daily Mail 6th April 2008

Many of the great Victorian and Edwardian hospitals of 100 years ago may still be in use across the country but health care in the early part of the last century was very different from today. Life expectancy was just 45 and one in seven children died by the age of five. Hospital wards in 1907 were full of patients suffering from TB, scarlet fever, malnutrition and the consequences of self-inflicted abortions and industrial accidents.
