MORE than 1,000 people were admitted to hospital for booze-related illnesses in north and west Cumbria last year. The new figures, released by the Department of Health, show that levels of alcohol abuse are continuing to soar up and down the country. In Cumbria, 1,023 people were treated at either the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven or the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for alcohol-related illnesses between April 2006 and March 2007.
