After signing a petition against experiments on animals, Max Pemberton has second thoughts Walking out of the supermarket, I was confronted by a woman. She smiled at me, then pointed to a table that had been set up on the pavement. "Will you sign our petition?" she said. I looked at the posters next to the table. One showed a monkey with part of its skull removed; its brain was exposed and appeared to have wires coming out of it. It was a sinister, repulsive, grotesque image.
