Food additives - two words that sound alarm bells for parents after a study from the University of Southampton last year linked six food colours to hyperactivity in children. Last month, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) recommended that these six additives should be phased out of food and drink by 2009. However, a leading expert believes we should also be concerned about another food additive, sodium benzoate (E211), which could be linked to even more serious health problems, including diabetes and growth difficulties.
