A father of five died after tests strongly indicating he had cancer were filed in his medical records without a doctor looking at them until four months later, an inquest heard. The blunder meant that by the time 66-year-old Kenneth Newell was finally admitted to hospital in pain the disease had spread from his prostate and ravaged his body. The retired prison officer died from cancer just nine days later on his wife's birthday - by then he was also being treated for the suspected hospital superbug infection C diff.
