Elderly women's lives are being put at risk because they are not screened automatically for breast cancer, experts have warned. Giving regular mammograms to women up to the age of 75 can cut their chances of dying from the disease by almost a third, according to a Dutch study. The NHS stops inviting women for screening at the age of 70. A programme to raise this to 73 will not cover the country until 2012.
