The parliamentary science and technology committee took only scientific evidence before recommending this week that it should be easier to get an abortion; it ruled out ethical input. Yet the hot debate on whether abortion is to be allowed or forbidden cannot be other than ethical. How, then, do we decide if it is right or wrong? Professor Stuart Campbell is the man who pioneered three-dimensional images of babies in the womb. These motion pictures showed foetuses at 12 weeks stretching and "walking" and, at 18 weeks, opening their eyes.
