Dentists could face having to pay back £100 million for work they have not been able to complete. Figures from the British Dental Association show that almost half of NHS dentists failed to deliver the “units of dental activity” (UDAs) during the first year of the new dental contract, 2006-07. Dentists agree to a level of UDAs, and are paid accordingly. But if they fall short they may have to pay money back to their primary care trust.
