A ROW erupted last night over a two-tier bed system in two of Liverpool’s biggest hospitals that would see more patients being sent home to recover in their own beds. The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is set to be completely rebuilt by 2014 to provide a new facility on a key gateway into the city. The chairman of the hospital’s scrutiny group, Maggie Andrews, last night warned the hospital will end up cutting about 275 beds – the vast majority in elderly care – at the Royal as part of its plan for a new £400m building.
