Health chiefs warn of winter sickness bug - Carlisle News & Star 23rd November 2007

PUBLIC health officials are warning that a quick-spreading sickness bug could hit west Cumbria again this winter. The highly infectious norovirus, better known as the diarrhoea and vomiting bug, was rife in the Cumbrian community last year. It affected schools and workplaces, eventually spreading into both Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary and the West Cumberland Hospital. Health bosses struggled to contain the outbreak and at one stage were forced to close wards and cancel operations as a result.
