ALL FOR one and all that, but it’s a thin line between drawing swords in an expression of unity, and becoming a clique that repels all outsiders. Rebecca Parmenter has experience of the latter. She tells Nursing Standard (Oct 31) of the “horrible sick feeling” she had before each shift while on placement as a student nurse. “The staff were not outright nasty but their behaviour made me wonder whether I could bear to continue with the placement.” It was the little things that hurt most, she says: “The ward clerk making tea for every other member of staff, including the other student, but not for me.”
