The borough spends £118 per head of population - two and a half times as much as Ealing in west London. Professor John Appleby, chief economist at the King’s Fund, who compiled the report into spend in 2006/07, says even after the different health needs of local people are taken into account, there still remains a huge difference in how much primary care trusts (PCTs) spend on certain illnesses.
