For a young Meg Mathews, all white blonde hair and gangly limbs, childhood summers were far removed from the glamorous, hip hangouts of St Tropez, the Caribbean and Ibiza that the 42-year-old designer, TV presenter and former party queen now knows so well. Growing up on Guernsey, as the only child of Stan, a builder, and Christine, a secretary, Meg's early life revolved around long days spent on the beach, scouring the rock pools for bladderwrack, sea anemone, and limpets, with just her Dalmatian, Sadie, for company.
