The latest failure in delivery of the Connecting for Health programme of electronic patient records (NHS bosses may not replace contractor after Fujitsu's walkout, May 30) will awaken schadenfreude and Luddism, according to the temperament of its habitual critics. But it is rarely noted that the essentials of Connecting for Health (CfH) - a record of diagnoses, care and test results - have been available for years in the form of general practice computer systems. These provide a full record of care in general practice and summarise huge quantities of data from other settings.
