Women who develop asthma run double the risk of heart attacks and strokes, research shows. A study of almost 15,000 men and women found a clear link between the onset of asthma in adulthood and heart and circulatory health. Women who first suffer from asthma after the age of 21 are more twice as likely as other women to go on to have a heart attack.
