One in 12 people worldwide is infected with potentially deadly hepatitis B or C viruses, figures show today. More than 500million people suffer from the illnesses, which cause the liver to swell and are spread by contact with blood. About 1.5million people die as a result of the illnesses, according to the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA).
