It's 60 years since the NHS was founded. At the time, Claire Rayner was a trainee nurse and, like many others, was proud to be part of it. Now president of the Patients' Association — and a patient herself — she laments what has happened to her beloved service... Sixty years ago, while this country was still rebuilding our war-torn economy, the Government of the day found enough money to launch a new system of care for every Briton.
