Untested cancer drugs are to be given to terminally ill patients in an effort to prolong life and refine new drugs during treatment. The Department of Health has approved a network of 19 specialist centres where experimental drugs can be administered to patients who have no other chance of recovery. Doctors will be able to take daily blood samples from the patients and adjust the drugs at in-house laboratories, hastening the time it takes to develop new drugs.
