School junk food ban creates 'sugar pushers' - The Telegraph 26th March 2008

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

A ban on the sale of junk food in California schools has sparked a thriving underground market with pupils turning "sugar pushers" and selling contraband confectionery to their peers. Some students arrive at school with their rucksacks loaded with forbidden fare, which they then sell to fellow pupils during breaks or even in class, according to reports. "It's created a little underground economy, with businessmen selling everything from a pack of Skittles to an energy drink," Jim Nason, a school head teacher, told California paper the Victorville Daily News.
