School holidays are a source of joy for children - but they are also a prime time for mishaps, says the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. More than a million children under the age of 15 are treated in hospital every year after accidents around the home - mostly during school holidays or at weekends. Yet many parents have little or no knowledge of first aid. Research has found that almost 60 per cent of people wouldn't know what to do if their child's life was in danger. Here, with the help of St John Ambulance and the Family Doctors' Association, we explain basic first aid .
