WORK has begun on a flagship maternity and children's unit - which is now expected to be nine months late. Bosses at North Manchester General have got planning permission to start preparing the biggest building project in Greater Manchester's maternity shake-up. But because they rejected earlier plans, the unit is not expected to open until March 2010, nine months after nearby Booth Hall Children's Hospital closes.
