Insulin may help us live longer and healthier lives, say scientists. The drug used to treat diabetes slows the ageing process, according to their findings. Researchers believe the insulin inhibits a gene which plays a part in ageing. In future it may be possible to manipulate the SKN-1 gene through gene therapy. That could lead to increased resistance to chronic disease and may also influence longevity.
