The Independent Living Strategy announced earlier this week is a key element of the government's disability agenda and is central to achieving its target of equality for all disabled people by 2025. The product of a wide-ranging cross-departmental consultation that included substantial input from disabled advocacy groups, the strategy is intended to ensure the eventual elimination of barriers to independent living - having choice and control over which care and support services are provided, and how.
