MORE than 24,000 men and women throughout Bury are being asked to take part in an NHS bowel cancer screening programme aimed at early detection and treatment. Invitations are being sent out this week to males and females aged between 60 and 69 who will take part in the screening over the next two years. The new national screening programme is being introduced by Bury Primary Care Trust (PCT). As part of this, a new bowel-cancer screening service has been set up at Fairfield General Hospital which is run by Pennine Acute Trust. It is only the second screening centre of its kind in Greater Manchester.
