Artist Charlotte Johnson Wahl was swimming in a local pool during a visit to New York when she noticed her right foot dragging slowly through the water. It had no power and felt, she says, like a flipper that was coming off. Assuming this to be just a mild form of cramp, she promptly dismissed the episode.
