Doctors are calling for the NHS to be freed from political interference, amid increasingly poor relations with the Government. A British Medical Association paper, due to be published on Thursday, will propose day-to-day control of the health service should be given to an independent board of governors, to stop politicians "meddling". The Government, however, is planning to exert tighter control over hospital management, giving the health secretary powers to sack failing trust chairmen.
