People with diabetes could benefit from taking cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, according to scientists. Statins are normally taken by people at risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes to lower levels of so-called "bad" cholesterol. But researchers who pooled data on the effects of statins on almost 90,000 people found that a wide variety of patients benefited from the treatment, irrespective of the type of diabetes they had.
