Fears of a widespread flu outbreak were growing last night as doctors were told to start prescribing anti-viral drugs to vulnerable patients. Winter flu has struck a month earlier than last year and pressure is mounting on family doctors already stretched by high levels of the winter vomiting bug, norovirus.
