OOPS. Surgeons and dentists who make disastrous slips with scalpel or drill may soon simply press “reset” instead of having to call their lawyers, thanks to the advent of electronic patients. Scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles, are developing virtual patient doppelgängers, on whom surgeons can practise before starting on the real person. Each patient would have their body and organs scanned and an exact 3D digital double generated.
