New mothers desperate to regain their figures are opting for plastic surgery in the weeks and months after childbirth. Tim Shipman in Washington and Laura Donnelly investigate a growing trend Katie Helein had always been proud of her figure. So when she gave birth to her second son she was determined to regain her svelte shape as soon as possible. She hired a personal trainer and worked out in the gym three times a week. The excess pounds melted away but, when she undressed each evening, her silvery stretchmarks, sagging bosom and still bulging tummy drove her to despair.
