A young mother died from a blood clot on the brain after vital tests were postponed because a hospital did not have enough weekend staff, an inquest heard yesterday. Sarah Wheeler, 24, died a week after being admitted to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings, East Sussex, after doctors struggled to diagnose diabetic ketoacidosis, a rare complication of diabetes that can cause blood clots. Mrs Wheeler, who left a daughter, Rebecca, now seven, had been complaining of severe headaches and began to show symptoms of brain damage.
