Health-and-safety zealots ‘are putting lives in danger’ - The Times 8th November 2007

Britain’s “health and safety Taleban” is preventing the emergency services from saving lives, a senior police officer has claimed. Sir Norman Bettison, the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire, claimed that individual police officers were being discouraged from using their initiative and courage when faced by potentially dangerous situations. The chief constable’s assault on health and safety regulations follows the controversy over two police community support officers who stood by while a ten-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Wigan, Greater Manchester.
