A young brother and sister will both die before they reach adulthood after being born with a fatal genetic disorder. Struck down by a cruel twist of fate, John and Bridie Philpott, who are 11 and nine, are the only two known carriers of a deadly strand of the neurological disorder in the UK. It is so rare that hardly any funding is available for research into the Variant Late Infantile strand of Batten Disease, for which there is no known cure.
