The art of consuming a solitary glass of chianti with dinner has long been hailed as a paradigm of Italian restraint. While Britons have acquired notoriety for their binge drinking, their Latin cousins have always prided themselves on a more civilised approach to alcohol. All that appears to be changing, however, after a series of Italian government studies exposed a new culture of binge drinking among the nation's youngsters.
