An experimental stem cell treatment that has proved successful in rats could lead to an off-the-shelf heart repair therapy for heart attack patients. Scientists have used human embryonic stem cells to repair the hearts of rats that have damage similar to that seen in heart attack patients. The injected cells led to recovery of the heart's activity and stimulated the growth of new blood vessels.
