Heart operation ban 'will affect 12,000' - The Telegraph 28th August 2007

About 12,000 people will need to undergo open heart surgery instead of a simple operation under a proposal by the health rationing body, a doctor is claiming. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence [Nice] is considering banning an angioplasty operation that uses stents -metal frames - which release drugs straight into blood vessels in the heart to keep them from narrowing again.
